Both reported. Both gapped lower. Both structures reached their full width.

Tesla came into the print at $377.50 with the straddle implying a 5.58% move. It opened this morning at $327.15, down 12.53% on the day and 13.34% from where we ran the analysis. That is roughly 2.4 times the move the options market was pricing. The 370/350 put spread cost $5.30 and carried a $364.70 breakeven. With the stock $37.55 below that breakeven, the spread reached its full $20.00 width, a gain of $14.70 on $5.30 of risk. The $363 shelf we flagged in the preview, the level Tesla had defended all summer, broke by nearly $36.

Alphabet came in at $347.50 with a 5.74% implied move against a much stronger chart. It opened at $319.84, down 6.45% on the day and 7.96% from our analysis price, about 1.4 times the implied move. The 342.5/325 put spread cost $5.45 with a $337.05 breakeven. The stock finished $17.21 below it, taking the spread to its full $17.50 width for a $12.05 gain on $5.45 of risk. Support at $333 broke by $13.

The point is not the direction. Anyone can guess down. The other point is what the structure was paying for. When open interest is stacked on the call side going into a binary event, the market is charging you for the outcome the crowd already expects and discounting the one it does not. A vertical put spread is not a prediction, it is a defined-risk expression of that asymmetry: you know the maximum you can lose the moment you put it on, and you do not need a crash to be paid, only a print that fails to justify what the calls already cost.

Two of the market's largest names report into the same 7/24 expiry, and both carry the same quiet tell. Retail is leaning into calls on each, yet the structure that prices best is the put spread, a defined risk position that pays if the print disappoints the bulls. The straddles imply roughly 5.6% on Tesla and 5.7% on Alphabet, and in both cases the setup targets the downside toward technical support rather than chasing the upside the crowd is paying for. Take a look at our charts also:

Tesla reports with the stock at $377.50, pinned below its rising averages near $392 and $408 and holding just above the $363 shelf it has defended all summer. Consensus wants $0.55 on $25.36B. The 370/350 put spread breaks even at $364.70, right at that shelf, and pays if earnings finally crack support.

Alphabet is the stronger chart, riding a clean uptrend at $347 with support stacked at $333. The number is large, $2.87 on $101.22B of revenue. The 342.5/325 put spread breaks even at $337.05, just above support. Against a trend this firm the spread is more hedge than call, a cheap way to fade a miss without fighting the primary direction.

As the hyperscalers report, keep one figure in view: roughly $1.65 trillion of AI related debt that never reaches a reported balance sheet, more than the $1.35 trillion these firms actually disclose. Meta and Oracle are confirmed by Nikkei at $420B and $273B of hidden obligations; Amazon, Microsoft, and Alphabet are estimated near $350B, $350B, and $250B. The financing sits in special-purpose vehicles (SPVs), leases, and circular compute and vendor commitments, which is exactly why reported leverage understates the real exposure behind the AI trade.

It is the lesson we keep returning to, when the obligation is fixed and the asset is volatile, the leverage matters most precisely when it is least visible. Worth listening for on this week's calls, right beside the headline the options market is already hedging. Magnelibra has consistently warned of this circular money supply and honestly it probably doesn’t matter in the long run, because its quite obvious that bailouts if necessary are always in the arsenal of the U.S. Treasury and Federal Reserve. We have watched decade after decade after decade of this.

The MEGA9 held its ground: a $25,595B aggregate cap and a flat +0.22% on the day, with the hedged book +12.84% YTD against the tracker's +2.52%, the QQQ overlay again carrying the difference. Apple (+20.55% YTD) and Nvidia (+11.15%) lead the pack while Microsoft (-17.76%) and Tesla (-15.74%) still lagging behind.

The overlay's backdrop: QQQ at $707.50 pressing weekly resistance at $725, with the bull/bear pivot and support at $685. With support underneath at $675. We are still working cheap puts above but no go this week thus far in the MEGA9 model.

The program sits +77.51% YTD ($443,768 on a $250k base, a 2.17 annualized Sharpe) but took a -2.11% hit on 7/21, driven by its short metals: silver (-$10,180) and gold (-$6,050) ran against the book, and the short Nikkei (-$10,325) piled on, partly offset by long copper (+$5,288) and long equities. Posture stays net long risk, short metals, and short yen.

The curve nudged higher across the board, the 30Y settling 5.131 and looking as if the yield will continue on pressing, now back at the cycle-high red line it has failed at twice before. The bear-steepening bias (2s30 still +87bp) keeps the long end the pressure point, and it ties straight back to Section II: a fixed, growing off-balance-sheet debt load meeting a long end that will not settle. Maybe the U.S. government debt is a real problem and not one that can just be covered up by continued printing?

Then I read an article about how, “Visa launches the Visa Stablecoin Platform (VSP)
with initial support for OpenUSD (OUSD) from Open Standard and how banks can issue, store, transfer, and redeem stablecoins.

So I decided to see what Kimi K2.6 had to say about and wanted to share this dialogue exchange here. Some say Ai has a built in confirmation bias with its users intentions, well that may be the case, but I think that is unproven and will ultimately not be the case as agentic Ai continues to morph its own intelligence.

Ok here is my conversation with Kimi in regards to the new Visa stablecoin announcement:

MAGNELIBRA asks: Kimi explain in the most simplest fashion, why Visa or any other traditional bank would require a stable coin feature when they simply can send money ACH or SWIFT, etc. Does it simply remove the conversion input from say USD to YEN as its done prior to converting to a native say, Visa stablecoin? I am a firm believer this is nothing more than traditional rails trying to capture what was supposed to be a private decentralized ecosystem competing against centralized fiat banking?

Stablecoins are like handing someone cash digitally. The money moves directly from Point A to Point B in seconds, 24/7, with no middlemen clipping a toll at each bridge. The USD stays USD the whole way—no surprise FX conversions mid-route.

So yes, you’re right: stablecoins remove the conversion friction. But they also remove the time friction and the intermediary friction.

So why is Visa doing this?

You nailed it. This is traditional rails trying to capture what crypto built.

Visa doesn’t care about decentralization or “being your own bank.” They care that crypto proved you can move money faster and cheaper than SWIFT. Now they’re saying: “We’ll give banks that same speed, but keep everything inside our walled garden.”

Think of it like this:

• Crypto-native stablecoins (USDC, USDT): Anyone with a wallet can use them. No bank account needed. Permissionless.

• Visa’s bank stablecoins: Only approved banks issue them. Only approved wallets hold them. Visa controls the rails. It’s blockchain technology without the decentralization.

The real play

Visa is offering banks a way to modernize their backend without letting customers escape to crypto. If Chase issues a “Chase USD” stablecoin on Visa’s platform, you get instant settlement, but you’re still locked into Chase’s ecosystem. The bank keeps the relationship, Visa keeps the network fees, and the customer never touches a decentralized exchange.

The OpenUSD model (no minting fees, revenue sharing) is specifically designed to lure banks away from Circle/Tether by making it profitable for banks to be the issuer themselves, not just a customer of Circle.

Bottom line

Your instinct is correct. This isn’t “crypto adoption.” It’s traditional finance colonizing crypto’s best feature (fast, cheap settlement) while stripping away the part that threatened them (permissionless access).

Stablecoins are becoming infrastructure. The only question is who controls the on/off ramps—banks or open networks. Visa just placed a big bet that banks will win.

At some point civil society will need to decide how much free will is too much for the collective and do we just accept the consequences of everything? Where is the line in the sand, we pay amateur athletes, we financialize every aspect of our lives and all our data is online free to see and under constant surveillance inside our homes, out on the streets and found in every transaction we make. Sorry but this isn’t freedom by any sense of the imagination, this is a surveillance Orwellian, Brave New World scenario and we aren’t sure the world is prepared for the consequences.

Anyway its been awhile since we have commented on the real world outside of markets in awhile, although gambling is obviously the new target market as the meteoric rise of the Kalshi’s, Polymarket’s and the online gambling world in general has made it so obvious headway into what was once strictly financial markets but now everything and anything seems bet-able!

Alright lets review some of the technical charts here:

First up Crude Oil, obviously the unpredictability of our geopolitical climate sets the precedent here, which means the moves either way could be extreme. However we seem to be immune to anything when it is smoothed out over time but reaction moves could be swift and problematic for over-levered players. Crude has put in a decent top and is now flanked by $87 on the resistance side and $77 on the support side with our pivot at $83:

When we look at the SP500 and Nasdaq futures, both are in an obvious consolidation mode. As far as the SP500 futures 7650 is our weekly resistance and 7200 our support. We suspect both levels will see initially countermoves if tested but overall the tone is still to the upside:

What You Are Reading

Two earnings prints land tonight after the bell. This note pairs the Magnelibra options straddle breakeven analysis for each name with the tape, the positioning read, and where the crowd sits going in. It is educational and hypothetical. Nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell.

Intuitive Surgical walks into tonight’s print down roughly a third on the year, trading near the bottom of its 52-week range and below its 200-day average. The Street consensus is $2.50 in EPS on $2.81 billion of revenue, a 14 percent earnings gain and a 16 percent revenue gain year over year. The company has beaten estimates in each of the last four quarters, and it carries a positive earnings surprise prediction into the report.

The bull case is straightforward and it aligns with the tape. The selloff has been driven by fear of a da Vinci 5 transition lull and an order air pocket, not by any break in the underlying procedure engine. Procedure growth guidance sits at 13 to 15 percent, first quarter came in at 17, and Japan’s June reimbursement expansion plus tariff relief on gross margin are live upside levers. When a durable compounder gets sold this hard into a quarter it has historically beaten, the risk skews toward a relief pop on any in-line-to-better result and, more importantly, a constructive outlook.

ISRG weekly. Price has retraced the entire 2024 to 2025 advance and sits in the marked Call Spread Zone near 400 to 420, back at the rising long-term moving average that guided the prior leg higher. The 7.67 percent implied move frames the night: a defended 400 strike is the line that matters.

The Magnelibra read: the straddle prices a 7.67 percent move, with call breakeven at 416.20 and put breakeven at 385.30. Open interest tilts to the put side in raw count, which is the tell. That is not a directional bet against the stock so much as long holders paying for downside insurance into the event, classic behavior in a name that has already been punished and whose base is nervous about the transition. Heavy protective put positioning into a beaten-down quality name is often a contrarian positive: the downside is pre-hedged, so a clean number releases the coiled spring.

The 410 / 435 call spread expresses the pop thesis with defined risk: $7.45 net cost, breakeven at 417.45, max profit $17.55, a 2.36 reward-to-risk. It needs the relief rally the setup argues for without requiring a return to the old highs. The structure caps the pain if the order-air-pocket fear proves real and the outlook disappoints.

Where the Crowd Sits · ISRG

Sell-side price targets were cut across the board into the print (RBC to 600, TD Cowen to 520, BTIG to 512, Mizuho to 500), yet the ratings stayed at Buy and Outperform. That combination, lower targets but intact conviction, is the signature of analysts de-risking their numbers while refusing to abandon the thesis. Goldman published a note arguing the crowd is wrong on the name. Insider selling of roughly $3.1M over three months is a mild offset. Retail chatter skews cautious, which is the fuel for a squeeze if the number clears.

Net: A stock the market has already sold, a quarter it usually beats, and a base that has bought its own insurance. The asymmetry favors the upside surprise.

Netflix comes in beaten down but for a different reason, and with a different resolution. The stock is off roughly 40 percent over the past year and more than 20 percent year to date, having hit an 18-month low in June. Consensus is $0.79 in EPS on $12.57 billion of revenue, about 14 percent top-line growth. The company no longer discloses subscriber counts, so the tape will trade off revenue, operating margin, ad-tier progress, and forward guidance rather than a headline number.

The problem is not the model, it is the mood. Engagement is the overhang: total time spent watching Netflix grew under 2 percent last year, and reports of steep season-over-season viewership drop-offs have fed a narrative that the content slate is thinning even as spend stays elevated. Management’s answer is the ad tier (past 250 million monthly active users, targeting a doubling to roughly $3 billion in 2026) and a raised free cash flow outlook near $12.5 billion. The bull case is a genuine valuation dislocation. The bear case is that engagement softness and first-half-weighted content amortization compress margins while the crowd waits for a catalyst that this quarter may not deliver.

NFLX weekly with the Fibonacci retracement of the entire 2022 to 2025 advance. Price has sliced through the 0.5 level at 75.14 and sits mid-channel with no clean bounce yet established. The 0.618 at 61.23 is the next structural shelf below; 89.05 is the first real resistance above. The 8.96 percent implied move is wide enough to reach either.

The Magnelibra read: the straddle prices an 8.96 percent move, call breakeven 77.15, put breakeven 70.55. Here the open interest tilts the other way, toward calls (135,000 versus 84,000 on the +20 strikes), and retail bias reads Calls. That is the mirror image of ISRG. Where Intuitive’s base is buying protection into weakness, Netflix’s crowd is reaching for upside into a downtrend that has not yet turned. Retail calls stacked against an unbroken downtrend is the more dangerous posture: it is hope positioning, and it tends to get punished when a beaten stock delivers an in-line print with no forward catalyst.

The 72 / 65 put spread is the defined-risk expression of the cautious view: $1.95 net cost, breakeven 70.05, max profit $5.05, a 2.59 reward-to-risk. It profits if the no-bounce tape resolves lower on soft engagement commentary or guidance, and it caps the loss if the dislocation-value bulls are right and the stock gaps up.

The editorial overlay worth stating plainly: the competitive pressure on Netflix is real and it is showing up where it matters, in prestige and in mindshare. At the 2026 Emmys, Apple TV+ landed three nominations each in both Outstanding Drama and Outstanding Comedy on the strength of Pluribus, Slow Horses, Your Friends and Neighbors, Shrinking, and the summer breakout Widow’s Bay. (Widow’s Bay, is one of our favs of the year!) Netflix, despite a far deeper catalog and 111 total nominations, managed one apiece in the marquee series categories. Apple’s Severance drove a reported 126 percent surge in new subscribers, the kind of single-title gravity Netflix has struggled to manufacture lately.

The strategic contrast is stark. Apple chose quality over volume, gave A-list creators budget and freedom, and built a prestige identity that now pulls hardware buyers into the ecosystem. Netflix chose scale, and is now visibly pivoting toward cheaper filler, licensed library content, and live programming to defend engagement, while leaning on advertising to defend the model. One of those strategies is accreting brand equity. The other is defending a lead. That does not make Netflix a short into a single print, the cash generation is formidable and the ad ramp is real, but it does explain why the stock has found sellers and not yet found buyers, and why the burden of proof tonight sits with management.

Apple, for its part, is doing the opposite of struggling. The stock has been among the strongest large-caps of the year, trading up through its bull-bear pivot near 290 and pressing new highs, with the content business now a genuine ecosystem asset rather than a cost center. The read-through is not that Netflix breaks tonight, it is that the secular content narrative has quietly shifted, and a beaten stock carrying a hopeful call-heavy crowd is the wrong side of that shift to be long into an event.

The pairing is almost a matched set. Intuitive is the beaten quality name whose own holders have pre-hedged the downside, setting up a relief move on any decent number and outlook, the pop you flagged. Netflix is the beaten name whose crowd is leaning the wrong way, long calls into a tape that has sold off and not recovered, against a competitor that is visibly winning the content war. One setup rewards the contrarian long. The other rewards patience and a defined-risk fade. Both trade tonight.

The 10-year Japanese government bond touched 2.865% on Wednesday and the 20-year reached 3.85%, the highest levels since September 1996 and July 1996 respectively. Over twelve months the 10-year JGB has repriced by roughly 137 basis points. Then on Friday, Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama said the government would encourage domestic pension funds to increase their holdings of Japanese financial assets, and the 10-year fell roughly 10 basis points on the remark.

Read that sequence again, because the sovereign has just told you the mechanism out loud. Japan has published a draft roadmap calling for more than ¥370 trillion in public and private investment through fiscal 2040. That has to be funded. A government that needs domestic buyers for an expanding issuance calendar reaches for the largest pool of domestic capital in the world and points it homeward. The Government Pension Investment Fund does not conjure new yen to do this. It rotates. A repatriation into JGBs is, mechanically, a supply of foreign bonds.

For three decades the Japanese institution was the reliable marginal buyer at the long end of the U.S. curve. That was never charity. It was a carry trade underwritten by a domestic yield of zero. With the 10-year JGB near 2.9% and the 20-year near 3.9%, and with the hedging cost of dollar exposure where it now sits, the arithmetic that made the Treasury bid rational for a Tokyo lifer or a pension board has simply stopped working. The buyer is not staging a protest. He is being pulled home by a rate structure his own government created.

This is an Asian bond market adjustment, and we want to be precise that it is not, at this moment, a U.S. confidence event. The distinction matters, because the lazy version of this story (“yields are up, therefore America has lost the market”) is contradicted by our own settlement data, and we would rather make the argument that survives the table than the one that flatters the thesis.

Look at what the U.S. curve actually did in 2026. The 2-year is up 73.9 basis points year to date. The 30-year is up 24.0 basis points. The long end has sold off the least of any tenor. The 2s30s spread has compressed from roughly 136 basis points at year end to 86.2 today. Friday itself was the same shape in miniature: the 2-year gave up 4.6 basis points while the 30-year gave up 1.7. That is a bear flattener. A bear flattener is the front end repricing a central bank, not the long end repricing a country.

So where is the fiscal premium. It is in the level, and it is hiding in plain sight. The 30-year yield settled Friday at 5.070. On October 18, 2023, at the height of the bond vigilante panic, the 30-year traded 4.994 with a 2-year at 5.22. Today the front end sits roughly 100 basis points below where it stood on that day, and the long bond still yields more. Strip out the Fed and the long end has not merely failed to rally. It has ratcheted higher against a materially easier policy rate.

That is the fingerprint. Foreign selling into a curve that is simultaneously pricing domestic hikes does not print as a steepener. It prints as a long end that refuses to participate in the rally the front end is entitled to. The 30-year made a new cycle high of 5.181 earlier this year, above the 5.103 of October 2023. The market is absorbing supply, and time will tell whether it absorbs it cleanly. Many readers know that we believe the FOMC knows that higher rates are contributing to inflation now, whether they hint at the opposite to the masses doesn’t change our data and our facts that we too believe this is the case.

Our view on the front end is a forecast, not a description. The 2-year has already done its work, roughly 83 basis points off the 3.379 low set in February. From here we expect the front end to remain anchored by a patient FOMC. Nine of eighteen participants penciled in at least one hike before year end and the median 2026 funds rate moved to 3.8% from 3.4%, but Kevin Warsh submitted no dot, ran a 130-word statement, and has spent his short tenure arguing that supply shock inflation should be looked through. A chair who declines to publish a rate path is not a chair preparing to surprise you with one. We do not think the next move is a hike.

Which returns us to the only question that matters for the long end: who is left to buy it. Japan is going home. And as our Tether section in the full report below details, the fastest growing pool of dollars in the world right now is buying bills, not bonds. The curve is not telling you a story about growth. It is telling you a story about who is buying which maturity.

Read more

Strip away the ticker, the conference circuit, and the software business Strategy still nominally operates, and the mechanics walked through in this report describe something fairly simple. The company borrows and issues securities against cash flows it does not have, in order to buy an asset whose price it cannot control, and it repeats that cycle for as long as capital markets allow it to. That is not a treasury policy. It is a levered, single-asset hedge fund wearing a corporate structure, financed by a stack of preferred securities and convertible debt rather than prime-broker margin, but running on the same principle any leveraged fund runs on: borrow cheap, buy volatile, and hope the spread compounds before the bill comes due. Every model in this report is the same mechanism described from a different angle, because there is really only one mechanism here to describe.

The entire structure is a wager that bitcoin’s price appreciates faster than the cost of the capital used to buy it.

When that holds, the arrangement is spectacular, and it is the trade that built Strategy’s premium in the first place. When it does not hold, and every year bitcoin trades below the return the preferred stack demands is a year that condition fails, the same structure runs in reverse with more force than it ran forward, for the reasons the negative convexity models above lay out in detail. Strategy is not holding bitcoin so much as renting the right to hold it, from preferred and convertible investors, at a rate that must be paid whether the bet is working or not.

What gets lost in nearly all coverage of this story, our own included until this report, is that bitcoin’s actual utility function does not care about any of it.

The network settles transactions, secures its ledger, and does what it was designed to do identically whether one bitcoin is worth $60,000 or $1,000. (nobody but Magnelibra mentions this!)

The protocol has no opinion on Strategy’s balance sheet, and no opinion on price at all. A fair counterpoint belongs here: proof-of-work security is not perfectly price-independent, since a lower price eventually reduces the dollar value of mining rewards and could, at the margin, thin the hash-rate defending the network. That mechanism is real, but it is secondary to the point being made. The ledger’s basic function and settlement guarantees do not move tick for tick with price the way a leveraged balance sheet does. Strategy has built a wrapper that monetizes a bet on bitcoin’s price. It has not built anything that changes what bitcoin actually does, and the industry has spent the better part of a decade collapsing those two separate questions into one.

First-mover status is a real advantage, and a fragile one. Financial and technology history is full of incumbents that looked unassailable until a narrower, better-engineered challenger took the ground the incumbent had left exposed, and we think that ground exists here. Our own view, for whatever it is worth, is that Monero (XMR) addresses two problems bitcoin’s design has not solved and arguably cannot solve without a fundamentally different architecture: privacy and fungibility. Every bitcoin is traceable on a public ledger back to its origin, which means individual coins can be tainted, blacklisted by exchanges, or flagged by chain-analysis firms over history a current holder had no part in. That is the opposite of sound money. Monero’s ring signatures and stealth addresses make every coin equivalent to every other coin, which is what fungibility actually requires, and bitcoin does not have it. Whether markets ever price that distinction the way we think they should is a separate and open question. Adoption, liquidity, and regulatory treatment still overwhelmingly favor bitcoin today, and we would be doing our readers a disservice if we implied otherwise. But we think it is a mistake to treat the incumbent’s technical position as total or permanent.

We would wager, and this is opinion, not something we can verify, that very few of these allocations have been stress-tested against the specific mechanism this report walks through: a leveraged treasury vehicle forced to compound its own selling pressure into a falling market in order to service fixed obligations that do not care what bitcoin is worth. That is a different and more structural risk than “bitcoin’s price could fall,” and we suspect most advisory boards have modeled the latter and never been shown the former. If your fund carries exposure to bitcoin, to Strategy, or to any security in its preferred stack, the model in this report costs nothing to replicate against your own position sizing. We think every fiduciary with that exposure owes their beneficiaries the exercise, rather than taking an advisor’s word that it isn’t necessary.

June nonfarm payrolls printed at +57,000 on Thursday, against a consensus expectation of +115,000 and well below the already downward revised May figure of +129,000. On its own, that miss would be notable. What elevates it to something more significant is the revision backdrop: April and May were marked down by a combined 74,000 positions, producing a net three-month picture that is essentially flat when you account for what was initially reported as reacceleration. The 12-month trailing average now stands at +36,000, a labor market that is barely treading water, not one that supports the rate-hike narrative that had been building into the number.

The unemployment rate fell to 4.2%, which sounds constructive until you read how it got there. The labor force participation rate declined 0.3 percentage points to 61.5%, the lowest reading since March 2021. Household employment fell by 507,000 people in a single month. People are not finding jobs, they are leaving the workforce entirely. A falling unemployment rate driven by participation collapse is not a sign of economic health. It is how a deteriorating labor market disguises itself in a headline statistic. We have maintained for some time that BLS data is serially understated and subsequently revised lower. This report is consistent with that pattern, and the revision trajectory confirms it. We do not believe the labor market is in the position the prior three months of headlines suggested.

Kevin Warsh’s first FOMC press conference on June 17 was, by any institutional measure, aggressively hawkish. (By design, but we don’t and never have bought that narrative) The policy statement was stripped to 130 words. Forward guidance was removed entirely. Nine of eighteen policymakers signaled support for a rate hike before year-end, with six penciling in two increases. The committee raised its 2026 headline inflation forecast to 3.6% and core to 3.3%, sharply above the 2.7% March projection. Warsh himself declined to submit a dot, stating it is “not helpful in the conduct of policy.” (He is a dove in hawks rhetoric clothing)

The contrarian read gaining institutional traction is that the hawkishness was structural rather than genuine, that Warsh needed to draw a visible line between himself and White House pressure for cuts, and that the first meeting was the cleanest opportunity to do it credibly. The Citi Research team has maintained throughout that the data ultimately points toward cuts, not hikes. Following Thursday’s payrolls print, the September hike that was 30% priced heading into the number was completely removed from the CME FedWatch curve. The next inflection point is June CPI on July 14. That number determines whether the hawkish posture survives the summer or begins to unravel. Our framework remains that rate hikes into supply-shock, fiscally-driven inflation are pro-inflationary, not disinflationary. This is a dynamic we have documented extensively and which has not been disproven by the 2026 data. (we wrote a whole thesis on why this is in our article entitled, “Fiscal Dominance and the Inversion of Monetary Transmission”, on June 15th)

The Bank of Japan raised its policy rate to 1.0% on June 16 in a 7-1 decision, the highest level since 1995 and its first hike since December 2025. The yen was trading at approximately 160 against the dollar before the decision and remained there after it. Japan spent an estimated 11.7 trillion yen ($73.5 billion) on intervention operations in May alone. The currency barely moved. This is the intervention trap in real time: without a structural change in the interest rate differential between Japan and the rest of the world, currency intervention is a fiscal expenditure, not a monetary solution. Deputy Governor Himino has signaled continued tightening, and board member Tamura is publicly targeting 2% as the neutral rate with quarter-point moves every few months. The BOJ’s producer price index printed +6.3% in May, the fastest pace in over three years. The yen at 160 after a historic tightening cycle is our fiscal dominance thesis operating in a different jurisdiction with identical mechanics.

Two structural themes that do not make weekly headlines but are accumulating in the system: commercial real estate write-downs continue to compound through bank balance sheets and CMBS structures at a pace that the quarterly earnings cycle continues to absorb in small, digestible tranches. The aggregate is not small. Simultaneously, we are observing early evidence of redemption pressure in private credit vehicles among ultrahigh-net-worth allocators, a rotation out of illiquid, floating-rate credit exposure and toward assets with cleaner liquidity profiles and more transparent pricing. When the investor base that built the private credit infrastructure begins to exit, the marks that have been held at cost come under pressure. This is a slow-moving event, not a crisis trigger, but it is directionally consistent with a late-cycle credit environment where the risk premium on illiquidity is being repriced. A hold of the 200p MA is constructive; a break below would represent the second meaningful structural rebound deterioration in the mega-cap universe since the recent rally off of the 21k market cap level.

Weekly resistance: $740.00 (red dashed) is a level that has held since first tagged in early 2026. Bull/Bear pivot at $690.00 (yellow/blue band) is the line that separates constructive from corrective structure on a weekly close basis. Support area $657.20 / $624.80 below. Current price is in recovery from the $690 pivot test but has not yet definitively cleared $740 resistance. The options hedge in the MEGA9 tracker (Long QQQ 720P) expired July 2 and was a good hedge for the program. The $720 put strike reflects the mid-range between current price and the $690 pivot.

Current 4.469%, closing below the 4.610% weekly resistance level that has capped multiple rally attempts since 2024 (four distinct rejections annotated). Rising green trendline support continues to be the initial downside target for bond bulls to overcome. The June NFP miss compressed the 2Y by 3.1bp while the 10Y held relatively firm (+0.60bp), reinforcing the bear-steepening thesis as fiscal premium continues to dominate the long end.

The real yield compression thesis that drove gold’s 2025-2026 rally is being challenged by the Warsh Fed’s explicit hawkish posture and the dollar holding bid at 100.6. However as you know we do not believe the FOMC hawk rhetoric, but that doesn’t mean metals can’t remain in a lower price pattern.

The June employment report creates a fork in the road for the second half of 2026. The consensus that was building toward a late-summer Federal Reserve rate hike has been materially disrupted. (As we knew it would) However Thursday’s payrolls number does not, by itself, resolve the policy question it only removes the most urgent rationale for tightening.

The next real report to watch is the June CPI, due July 14, two weeks before the next FOMC decision. If CPI comes in at or above 4.0%, the argument for a hold-then-hike survives. If it prints closer to 3.5% or below, particularly if core softens meaningfully, the contrarian thesis that Warsh’s hawkishness was structural positioning rather than durable policy intent gains its first real piece of supporting evidence.

The yield curve has already begun to express this uncertainty. The front end bull-flattened on the NFP print while the long end continued to steepen with the 2Y -3.1bp, 30Y +1.6bp on the day. The bond market is simultaneously pricing out hike risk at the short end and building in fiscal premium at the long end. This is not a contradiction. It is the market’s rational expression of our fiscal dominance framework: monetary optionality is returning at the front while the cost of the government’s long-dated borrowing continues to rise regardless. The 2s30 spread at 85bp, while still historically compressed, has widened materially from the inversion low. The directionality is set.

The Futures Market Trend Program’s current positioning reflects this macro backdrop with reasonable fidelity. Long duration in ZB and ZN, short NASDAQ, short the major funding currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CHF, CAD) while long AUD a configuration that is net long risk-adjusted carry where it exists and positioned for continued dollar strength in the near term while maintaining duration longs as a rate-cut optionality position. The 2.2557 annualized Sharpe and 73.46% YTD return are the outputs of that framework operating in a regime that has been consistent with our thesis. July 14 is the next regime test. We hope a few institutions and investors are beginning to notice how important it is to read our work. The FOMC Got More Hawkish. The Bond Market Already Disagrees.

On June 17, the Fed held rates at 3.50 to 3.75 percent and released a dot plot that moved in the opposite direction of what most of the curve wanted: the median 2026 year end projection rose to 3.8 percent, up from 3.4 in March, with nine of nineteen officials now penciling in at least one hike. New Chair Kevin Warsh called the committee’s tone unambiguous. Bank of America responded by calling for three hikes. We laid out our objection to that premise two editions ago: hiking against 39 trillion in government debt transmits through the interest income channel before it transmits through demand destruction. The bond market has been casting its own vote since. The ten year has fallen from 4.509 to 4.372 in the two weeks since that meeting, breaking decisively through the 4.44 percent level that has acted as the pivot between the bull and bear case on yields for most of this year. The two year, five year, and thirty year have all moved the same direction. The Fed says hike. The curve says cut. One of them is going to be wrong, and it usually is not the bond market.

Equities Are Rolling Over

The technical picture across the major indexes is starting to match the yield curve’s message. QQQ closed the week at 706.52, down 4.60 percent, its sharpest weekly decline since the spring correction, slipping from a recent high near 745 and now testing the 690 bull/bear pivot from above for the first time since that level was reclaimed. The pattern across the last twelve months has been a series of sharp corrections followed by higher highs. What we are watching for now is the opposite: a series of lower highs, each rally weaker than the one before it, which is the technical signature of a market transitioning from trend to range, or range to decline. Nasdaq futures are down 4.86 percent year to date from their most recent peak. We are not calling a top. We are saying the structure of this rally is changing, and a market pricing three more hikes into that structure is pricing the wrong regime.

Why We Think the Fed Ends Up Cutting, Not Hiking, Inside Six Months

We have made this case before and we are making it again because the data keeps confirming it rather than refuting it. Real GDP growth is now projected at just 2.2 percent for 2026, the Fed’s own number, down from prior projections, even as the median dot moves toward another hike. Housing is the clearest transmission point: the average 30 year fixed mortgage has held in the high 6 percent range for months with no relief, existing home sales remain depressed, and home price growth is decelerating into outright softness in a growing number of metro markets. A Fed that hikes into decelerating growth and a softening housing market is not fighting inflation, it is manufacturing the conditions for the cut it will need to deliver six months from now. We think the committee ends 2026 closer to cutting than hiking, and that the next two payroll and housing prints matter more to that path than anything in this week’s dot plot.

The K-Shaped Economy Is Why the Aggregate Numbers Lie

Part of why this is so hard to see in the headline data is that the headline data increasingly describes two different economies. The top 10 percent of US earners now account for roughly half of all consumer spending, up from closer to 35 percent in the early 1990s, according to a recent Moody’s Analytics review of Federal Reserve data. Split by income quintile rather than decile, the story sharpens further: personal outlay growth for the top 20 percent has run at 8.3 percent since the pandemic against 4.5 percent for the bottom 80, with CPI inflation of 3.9 percent sitting almost exactly between the two. The top of the distribution has been spending through asset gains and is largely insulated from the financing cost of a 4 percent plus mortgage rate. The bottom 80 percent is not, and that segment is where a hiking cycle actually bites. An aggregate growth number built on top decile spending can look resilient long after the majority of households underneath it have already slowed down.

MSTR: mNAV Below 0.80x and Out of Good Options

Strategy Inc’s mNAV, the ratio of the company’s market value to the dollar value of its bitcoin holdings, closed the week at 0.79x. Below 1.0x, the mechanism that built this trade runs in reverse: issuing new shares no longer grows bitcoin per share, it dilutes it, because the company is selling equity for less than the bitcoin backing it is worth. MSTR is now down 45.8 percent year to date, materially worse than bitcoin’s own 31.6 percent decline, the leverage embedded in the structure cutting against holders on the way down the same way it flattered them on the way up. We have written about the STRC preferred stock’s negative convexity for months, and that mechanism is now compounding with this one: a market that will not fund new bitcoin purchases at an accretive price, and a preferred stock that gets more expensive to defend the lower everything else falls. Strategy’s own usual levers, common equity issuance and STRC issuance, are both constrained at the same time, by the same underlying cause. We do not see a clean way out of this that does not involve selling more equity at a discount, selling more bitcoin outright, or both.

I. Futures Market Trend Program

Max drawdown, peak balance, and the resulting Calmar ratio are derived from the monthly balance series (largest peak-to-trough decline still March’s $353,376 high to April’s $309,229 close; June’s $431,639 is the new high-water mark).

The short Nasdaq position is now the single best performer in the book by a wide margin, up $7,130 today and the clear beneficiary of the equity rollover we discussed earlier. The long bond sleeve, thirty year and ten year, finally turned modestly profitable as yields extended their decline. Gold remains neutral for a second straight week after flipping out of its short at support, and the rest of the commodity complex stays flat. June is now up 25.73 percent, the best month of the year, and the program sits at 72.66 percent year to date.

II. MEGA9 Tracker + Hedge

A bounce day for the basket, up $664, even as the broader Nasdaq fell hard, MSFT and AAPL leading with 5.71 and 3.14 percent gains. The basket's total market cap has fallen back to 23.789 trillion, now below all three moving averages (significant technically) on the chart, the 21 period at 25.290 trillion, the 50 period at 25.686 trillion, and the 200 period at 24.283 trillion. The hedge overlay's year to date edge over the unhedged tracker held at 5,730 dollars, 5.96 percentage points.

QQQ closed the week at 706.52, down 4.60 percent, breaking back below the 725 level that had acted as resistance and is now acting as a lid from above. The 690 bull/bear pivot is the level to watch from here. The 725 put we had been working to buy at 3.00 never filled: it traded as low as 5.23 during the cycle but never reached our level, so there was no hedge in place last week. This week we will look at putting on the QQQ 720 put for 3.00 or less for the July 2 expiry.

III. Interest Rate Futures

Every maturity gained again this week, extending the rally that began two editions ago. The Ultra Bond contract is the lone exception, down 5 ticks on the week as the very long end lags the broader rates rally, but it remains up $1,750 on the Ultra Ten contract and the belly of the curve continues to lead.

IV. US Treasuries & Yield Curve

The ten year closed at 4.372 percent, through the 4.44 level that has marked the line between the bull and bear case on yields for most of this year. That is now 22.1 basis points above the December 31 close, the smallest gap of any maturity except the thirty year, which sits just 3.5 basis points above where it started the year. The curve is steepening from the front end, 2s10 up 1.50 basis points and 2s30 up 4.00, while the long end continues to richen versus the belly, the kind of move that typically accompanies a market pricing a slowing economy rather than a reacceleration.

The weekly chart makes the level explicit. The ten year closed Sunday at 4.376 percent, down 1.77 percent on the week, decisively through both the 4.440 bull/bear pivot and its own 21 and 50 week moving averages at 4.327 and 4.234. Every prior approach toward the 4.610 resistance line going back nearly two years has been rejected, the red arrows marking four separate failed attempts. We are now trading below the pivot for the first time since that pattern began, with the next structural support not until 3.250.

V. Equity Index Futures

Nasdaq futures and Nikkei were the two clear losers on the week, down $7,130 and $7,550 per contract respectively, while SP500, Dow, and Russell all posted modest gains. That split, the largest and most richly valued growth index falling while the broader market holds up, is itself a rotation signal worth watching alongside the rollover discussed in this edition’s lede.

SP500 futures closed the week at 7,435.75, up a modest 0.46 percent, holding above the 7,250 weekly support and the bull/bear pivot line, with 7,525 the resistance level capping the most recent push higher. Unlike Nasdaq, the broader index has not yet broken its own structure, which is exactly why the divergence between the two matters: the rollover we are watching for is showing up first in the most crowded part of the market, not yet across the index as a whole.

Nasdaq futures tell the sharper version of the same story: a close at 29,586.25, up 0.74 percent on the day but still well off the 30,350 weekly resistance, after trading as low as 29,280.25 intraweek. The contract has broken below its own long term trend slope, the dashed green line on the chart, for the first time since the move began, and is now leaning on the 28,500 weekly support with the bull/bear pivot line sitting just beneath it. A failure to reclaim the trend slope from here would be the clearest confirmation yet of the lower highs pattern flagged in this edition's lead in.

VI. Currencies & Bitcoin

The dollar index slipped fractionally, down 0.066, but remains up 3.68 percent on the year, a dollar bid that has persisted through this entire disinflation repricing, consistent with the flight to quality framing from two editions ago rather than a rate differential trade. Bitcoin bounced modestly to 59,782, still down 31.64 percent year to date and the worst YTD performer of any market we track this edition.

By Sunday evening the bounce had already given way: the weekly chart shows bitcoin back down to 59,152.84, off 6.46 percent on the week and printing a fresh low of 58,000 intraweek. That keeps price under both the 70,354 resistance shelf and Strategy Inc’s own 75,651 average cost basis, the level we have flagged repeatedly this edition as the breakeven the company’s entire mNAV problem is measured against. The 52,800 support level is the next one of consequence if this leg continues.

VII. Energy

WTI crude continued lower, down another $2,690 today and now up only 21.37 percent year to date after touching nearly 30 percent just two editions ago. The crack from those highs has been one of the sharpest moves on the board over the past two weeks and is itself a piece of the disinflation case: oil demand reads as the cleanest real time gauge of global growth, and it has been falling in a straight line.

VIII. Metals

Gold and silver both bounced today, up $4,870 and $4,380 respectively, but neither move comes close to repairing the week: gold remains down 7.75 percent year to date and silver a much steeper 17.43 percent, still the worst year to date performer in the metals complex by a wide margin. Copper continues to be the lone bright spot, up 6.28 percent on the year.

IX. German Futures

German rates continue tracking the same disinflation bid as US Treasuries, the Bund and Schatz both higher on the day. The DAX is the exception, down 329 points and essentially flat for the year at negative 0.27 percent, the only equity index in this report sitting in the red year to date.

The digital asset basket bounced across the board today, every one of the ten names higher, led by Solana's 10.98 percent jump and Zcash's 5.32 percent gain. The Founders strategy NAV snapped its four day decline, rising from 217.81 to 228.12, a 4.74 percent day, though it remains down 8.75 percent since inception. The strategy continues to meaningfully outperform the passive equal weight basket, down 36.28 percent over the same window, a 27.53 point gap.

The Bitcoin to Tether market cap ratio held at 6.4, essentially unchanged from last edition, while Tether's own market cap ticked up to 186.06 billion. Bitcoin's 0.91 percent bounce today to 59,781.71 is consistent with the broader risk on day across the digital asset complex, but the ratio itself remains near its multi year low, the same structural point we have made in recent editions: stablecoin issuance keeps growing regardless of which direction bitcoin is moving. We are and remain skeptical of Tether’s integrity.

XII. Strategy Inc (MSTR)

mNAV, the ratio of Strategy’s market value to the dollar value of its own bitcoin holdings, closed the week at 0.79x. Below 1.0x, the entire flywheel that built this trade runs in reverse: every new share sold dilutes existing holders’ bitcoin per share rather than growing it, because the company is raising equity for less than the bitcoin backing it is worth. Independent reporting earlier this month already flagged Strategy trading roughly 17 percent below the minimum price needed to fund further purchases without shrinking bitcoin per share. At 0.79x, that gap has only widened.

The covered call overlay is now sitting at a negative 31.6 percent return since the December 1, 2024 start date, versus negative 78.4 percent for the unhedged shares, a 91.9 percent total premium collected since inception. No short call is written again this week. This week we will use Tuesday’s opening to sell the 5% otm as a hedge, not Monday.

We do not see a clean path out of this for Strategy that does not run through one of three doors: sell more common equity at a discount to NAV, which is dilutive by construction below 1.0x; sell bitcoin outright to fund preferred dividends, which the company already did for the first time in late May; or some combination of both. MSTR is down 45.8 percent year to date against bitcoin's own 31.6 percent decline, leverage working against holders on the way down exactly as it flattered them on the way up. This is the same negative convexity we flagged in STRC months ago, now showing up on the common equity side of the capital structure as well.

The Long View

Markets have spent five years treating every Fed decision as a binary switch between easing and tightening. The interest income channel does not care which switch is flipped. A government this large, financing itself this short, transmits monetary policy through its own balance sheet as much as through bank lending. Watch the mechanism, not the label on the policy.

June is now up 25.48 percent with two trading days left to report, comfortably the best month of the year and pushing the program to a 72.31 percent year to date return. The short Nasdaq leg has been the standout this week, up $3,035 today alone, while the long bond sleeve, thirty year and ten year both long, is finally getting paid as yields fall instead of fight the position. Gold's flip to neutral leaves the program with zero outright commodity exposure for the first time in over a month, all of the remaining risk concentrated in rates, equity index futures, and currencies.

A much quieter day for the basket than the broader market, down just $456, 0.47 percent, while the equity futures and metals complex took far bigger hits elsewhere in this edition. Microsoft remains the deepest laggard at negative 24.43 percent year to date, with Tesla and Meta both still down double digits. Broadcom and Alphabet continue to anchor the basket’s gains, up 10.39 and 9.96 percent. The hedge overlay’s year to date edge over the unhedged tracker held steady at 5,730 dollars, a 5.87 percentage point spread.

QQQ broke harder than the basket itself, down 4.05 percent on the week to 710.62, slipping through the 715 support area we have been tracking and now testing the gap up toward 748 resistance from below rather than from above. The 725 put we have been working to buy at 3.00 since Monday is far away and short calls would have performed but you can’t catch everything!

Every maturity rallied today, a full reversal from last edition's broad selloff. The Ultra Bond contract gained 51 ticks, its best single session in weeks, though it remains down $812.50 per contract year to date. The long end is now pricing the disinflation case the short end has been slower to follow, consistent with the curve flattening detail in the section below.

The long end has nearly round tripped to where it started the year: the thirty year is just 2.6 basis points above its December 31 close, while the two year remains 66.8 basis points above its own. That gap is the curve telling a growth story, not an inflation one. The belly is leading the rally, five and ten year yields both down more than 8.5 basis points today, more than either end of the curve.

The thirty year bond has round tripped from a 5.181 high earlier this cycle back to 4.856 today, a level it last visited consistently in the second half of last year.

The two year, the maturity most sensitive to the Fed's own policy rate, remains the front end's holdout: still well above its 3.379 cycle low even after today's decline. However this could rapidly fall and price out all the expected hikes, faster than many believe, but you guys know this has always been our base case:

Nasdaq futures lost another 151.75 points to 29,514.25, the contract's worst single session net change of the week and a $3,035 per contract loss, exactly the move our short Nasdaq position in the trend program is designed to capture. Every index here remains comfortably positive year to date, Nikkei still the standout at 37.60 percent, but today's tape was a risk off session across the board.

The dollar index continues to grind higher, up 0.22 on the day and 3.95 percent year to date, a dollar bid that is itself consistent with the deflation read rather than the hike read: a hawkish Fed story usually comes with a stronger dollar too, but a stronger dollar into falling yields and falling commodities looks more like a flight to quality than a rate differential trade. Bitcoin fell another 2,500 to 59,825, down 31.59 percent year to date and now trading at a discount to Strategy Inc's own 75,651 average cost basis of more than 20 percent.

WTI crude is down 7.90 percent on the week per the weekly chart below, the single sharpest energy reversal on the board, and is now the worst 30 day performer across every market we track, down 16.93 percent over that window after being one of the best YTD performers as recently as last edition. RBOB gas is following it lower, down $2,809.80 today, though both remain solidly positive on the year. This is the kind of demand-side break that shows up in oil before it shows up anywhere else.

Gold lost $14,060 per contract today, by far its sharpest single session decline of the year, and the contract is now down 9.72 percent year to date after touching its weekly support level near 3,975 on the chart below. Silver is the far bigger casualty, down 19.04 percent year to date and off 19.14 percent in just the last five sessions, the single worst five day performer of any market we track this edition. Copper remains the one metal holding a gain on the year.

German rates are catching the same bid as US Treasuries, the Bund up 48 ticks and the Schatz up 5.50, both consistent with the global growth scare rather than a region specific story. The DAX is the lone decliner in this group, down a modest 225 points and essentially flat on the year at -0.09 percent.

The digital asset basket is down across the board today, every one of the ten names lower, led by Cardano's 6.07 percent decline and Bitcoin's own 5.53 percent drop to 59,825.10. The Founders strategy NAV has now fallen three straight sessions, 241.47 to 229.14 to 222.58, down 10.97 percent since inception, though that still compares favorably to the passive equal weight basket's 37.88 percent since inception loss, a 26.91 point gap that has only widened as this drawdown has deepened.

The Bitcoin to Tether market cap ratio has compressed further to 6.4, extending its multi year decline from above 35 in 2020. Tether's own market cap remains near 186.12 billion even as Bitcoin keeps falling, underscoring the same point from our last edition: stablecoin issuance has decoupled from the price of the asset it is most commonly used to trade.

MSTR common stock fell 16.35 percent on the week to 94.13, an eight month low and a level last seen before the bulk of the company's 2025 bitcoin accumulation. Since STRC launched in July 2025, when MSTR traded near 455.90, the common stock is down roughly 78 percent against bitcoin's 43 percent decline over the same window, a reminder that the leverage embedded in Strategy's structure cuts in both directions, and is currently cutting against holders harder than spot bitcoin itself.

Strategy Inc's covered call overlay is sitting at a negative 28.5 percent return since the December 1, 2024 start date, versus negative 75.3 percent for the unhedged shares, total premium collected of 91.9 percent of the original position value since inception. There is no short call written this week: implied volatility and the speed of the underlying decline made a new short strike unattractive to put on.

STRC, Strategy’s Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock, is the funding mechanism we have flagged as the structural weak point in this trade for months. It carries no maturity, no lien on the bitcoin treasury, and a dividend the board resets monthly with the explicit goal of holding the stock near its 100 dollar par value. That design is negatively convex by construction: when the underlying weakens, the coupon has to rise to defend par, which raises the cash cost of the structure at the exact moment the company’s ability to pay is most in question. STRC has traded straight through every line meant to hold it. It closed at a record low of 89.00 on June 18. It fell to 95.13 on June 3, the threshold under Strategy’s own framework that triggers a recommended 50 basis point dividend increase. As of today it is quoted near 82.20, an effective yield approaching 14 percent for any new buyer, even with the stated coupon still at 11.50 percent.

The mechanism we warned about is no longer theoretical. Strategy sold 32 bitcoin between May 26 and 31 for about 2.5 million dollars, its first net bitcoin disposal since it began accumulating in 2022, specifically to fund STRC distributions. Cryptoquant now estimates dividend coverage, the months of cash on hand relative to current preferred obligations, has collapsed from more than seven years at the start of 2026 to just fourteen months, as annual dividend costs across the company’s five preferred series climbed toward 1.2 billion dollars. The bitcoin treasury itself, 847,363 coins at an average cost of 75,651 dollars, is sitting on an unrealized loss above 12 billion dollars at today’s spot price near 59,825. Moving STRC to semi-monthly dividends, approved by shareholders June 8, may dampen the stock’s volatility. It does nothing to close the underlying funding gap. The question we raised months ago, whether Strategy would eventually be forced to choose between trimming the dividend and selling more bitcoin to fund it, has already been partially answered: it chose to start selling. The size of that selling, not the principle of it, is now the thing to watch.

Bank of America flipped its 2026 rate call this week. The desk that had argued for a hold through year end is now penciling in three quarter point hikes, September, October, and December, lifting the funds rate to a 4.25 to 4.50 range. The reasoning leans on June’s FOMC projections, where nine of nineteen officials saw at least one hike by year end, and on new Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s first press conference, which landed more hawkish than the market had priced. BofA economist Aditya Bhave summed up the call in five words: “the data call for hikes.” Markets, for context, are still pricing something closer to one move by early 2027, roughly 41 basis points of tightening for the year against BofA’s 75.

We would push back on the premise before the policy. Hiking into a government carrying $39 trillion in debt and roughly $1.56 trillion in annual interest expense does not behave like the textbook tightening of 1994 or 2004. Every 25 basis point move on that stock of debt is closer to $39 billion in additional annual interest income transferred from the Treasury to the private holders of that debt: money market funds, banks, foreign central banks, retail savers parked in bills. That is not contraction. That is the transmission mechanism running in reverse of what a hiking cycle is supposed to accomplish, and it is the same interest income channel we laid out at length in our working paper on fiscal dominance. If BofA’s hawkish pivot plays out, it becomes a live test of that thesis rather than a rebuttal of it.

There is a second, quieter piece sitting underneath this. Since mid December the Fed has been buying Treasury bills in the secondary market through what it calls Reserve Management Purchases, roughly $40 billion a month, alongside reinvestment of maturing mortgage backed securities principal back into bills. The Fed insists this is not quantitative easing, it is balance sheet maintenance for an ample reserves regime. The balance sheet does not care what it is called. It is growing, week over week, by design. Combine a Fed that is structurally a buyer of government paper most months with a hiking cycle that pays more interest on that paper to whoever holds it, and the inflationary mechanics do not point in the direction BofA’s headline implies.

On the technology side, watch what just happened with Anthropic. The US government issued an export control directive in mid June ordering Anthropic to suspend all access to its Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models for any foreign national, anywhere, including the company’s own foreign employees, over a disputed jailbreak finding. Anthropic complied and disabled both models for every customer rather than attempt to segment by nationality. Within days, Sakana AI, the Tokyo lab known for evolutionary model merging, launched Fugu: a multi agent orchestration system sitting behind a single API that coordinates a pool of other frontier models, including instances of itself, to deliver what it calls “frontier capability without the risk of export controls.” Sakana’s own launch language names Fable and Mythos directly. The pitch is sovereignty: route around any single government’s leash on any single lab by orchestrating across many. Whether or not Fugu’s benchmarks hold up under scrutiny, the positioning is the real story. Export controls aimed at individual frontier models may simply accelerate a shift toward orchestration layers that nobody can export control, because no single model inside the system is doing the controlling.

That story sits on top of a capex structure that is starting to look strained on its own terms. The major hyperscalers, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, and Meta, are on track to spend somewhere between $650 and $725 billion combined on AI infrastructure this year, against free cash flow that is compressing across the board: Amazon’s trailing free cash flow down roughly 95 percent, Alphabet’s down 47 percent in a single quarter. A meaningful share of that demand is circular. Nvidia commits $100 billion to OpenAI, which spends it on Nvidia chips. Oracle signs $300 billion with OpenAI for data centers it fills with Nvidia silicon. Nvidia takes a stake in CoreWeave and commits billions to buy CoreWeave’s unsold capacity, capacity built on Nvidia GPUs. Microsoft owns roughly 27 percent of OpenAI and is its primary cloud landlord, recycling Azure revenue into the same chips it sells compute against. Two cash burning customers, OpenAI and Anthropic, now underwrite something like 1.05 trillion of a roughly $2.1 trillion revenue backlog sitting on the books of the four largest cloud providers. None of that is illegal or even unusual for an infrastructure buildout. It is, however, the same shape as the financing daisy chains that defined the back half of the 2000 cycle, and it is showing up exactly where you would expect it to: in the names that built the last three years of index returns.

That shows up directly in our own tracker. Microsoft sits at negative 24.04 percent year to date inside the MEGA9 basket, Meta at negative 14.58, Tesla at negative 9.93, Amazon barely positive at 0.85. These are not the speculative small caps taking the hit. These are four of the largest single commitments inside the basket. Microsoft’s own quarterly capex actually came down even as the OpenAI exclusivity arrangement that anchored its AI narrative came apart, and the market punished both the pullback and the unwind in the same week. Meta raised its 2026 capex guide to a $25 to $145 billion range and lost roughly 10 percent of its market value on the print. Nvidia, Apple, Alphabet, and Broadcom are still carrying the basket positive, up 11.88, 9.25, 11.15, and 13.30 percent respectively, but the dispersion opening up inside what traded as a single momentum block for three years is the real story of this stretch. The market is starting to price hyperscaler capex the way it should have from the start: as a bet with a payback period, not a multiple expansion story.

Daily yield change reflects today's settle against yesterday's close. Total change is measured against the December 31, 2025 close. Yields rose across the curve today, two through thirty year, with the front end moving the least on the day and the belly moving the most.

The two year note, the maturity most sensitive to Fed policy, has backed up from a 3.379 low in February to 4.232 today, an 85.3 basis point move that has erased most of last year's easing on its own. That repricing is the bond market doing BofA's work for it before the Fed has hiked a single time.

Nasdaq futures shed 66.25 points to 30,653.50, down 1.19 percent today. The contract closed at 30,355.50 on the weekly chart, holding 29,800 support with 31,000 weekly resistance still overhead. Nikkei remains the standout, up 44.80 percent year to date against a Nasdaq up 18.39 and an S&P up 7.84.

The dollar index closed the week at 101.037, up 0.27 percent, clearing the 99.500 bull/bear pivot for the first time since the spring reversal. Bitcoin bounced 734.34 to 63,969.97 on the weekly print but remains pinned under the 70,583 resistance shelf and the 75,651 Strategy Inc average cost basis, with 52,800 the next support level of consequence.

Nikkei leads on both the 5 day and 30 day windows, up 4.84 and 14.66 percent. WTI crude is the worst performer on both short windows, down 7.41 percent this week and 20.72 percent over the month, even after rallying sharply off its spring low. Bitcoin remains the standout laggard year to date, down 26.36 percent against a basket where most other majors are positive.

Monero led the top 10 digital asset basket today, up 8.29 percent, while Solana added 5.40 and Bitcoin itself gained 2.27 percent to 64,399.69. Zcash was the lone decliner of consequence, off 0.59 percent. The basket’s total market cap stands at 1.716 trillion, up 36.21 billion on the day.

The Founders strategy continues to outperform the passive equal weight basket by a wide margin on a since inception basis, the gap holding above 30 points for most of the past month.

The Bitcoin to Tether market cap ratio has compressed to 6.9, down from a 2025 peak above 23. Tether's own market cap has climbed to 186.16 billion even as Bitcoin's price has stalled, a sign that stablecoin issuance is outpacing the asset it is most commonly used to trade.

Strategy Inc's covered call overlay, long 100 shares against one out of the money call sold monthly, is sitting at a negative 24.5 percent return since the December 1, 2024 start date, versus negative 71.2 percent for the unhedged shares. Total premium collected since inception now stands at 91.9 percent of the original position value. We are working to sell the 120 strike call for this weeks expiry at 5.00 or better against the position. Selling MSTR down near the $107 area might not be the best idea, so we are expecting the market to test this and hold at first.

Markets have spent five years treating every Fed decision as a binary switch between easing and tightening. The interest income channel does not care which switch is flipped. A government this large, financing itself this short, transmits monetary policy through its own balance sheet as much as through bank lending. Watch the mechanism, not the label on the policy.

Why High Interest Rates May Be Inflationary Under Debt Saturation, and What the Federal Reserve Is Getting Wrong

Abstract

This paper argues that conventional monetary transmission theory fails under conditions of fiscal dominance, defined as a regime in which sovereign debt is sufficiently large that interest payments constitute a material income transfer to the private sector, financed through ongoing deficit spending and de facto monetary accommodation. Drawing on the Fiscal Theory of the Price Level (Cochrane, 2023), Sargent and Wallace’s Unpleasant Monetarist Arithmetic (1981), and three decades of Japanese monetary experience, the paper contends that at current U.S. debt levels, rate hikes increase inflation through the interest income channel rather than suppress it through credit tightening. The policy implication is that the Federal Reserve’s current posture is procyclically inflationary, and that a deliberate strategy of managed financial repression, holding the policy rate below nominal GDP growth, offers a historically grounded alternative consistent with the mechanism used to liquidate World War II-era debt from 1945 to 1975.

I. Introduction

The Federal Reserve’s primary analytical framework rests on a set of assumptions about the transmission of monetary policy that were calibrated against an economy meaningfully different from the one that exists today. Chief among those assumptions is fiscal solvency: the idea that the federal government can and will generate primary surpluses, or at minimum maintain a stable debt trajectory, across the business cycle. As of 2024, this assumption is no longer defensible.

Total federal debt outstanding stands at approximately $39 trillion, representing roughly 134 percent of GDP. The weighted average interest rate on that debt has risen to approximately 4.0 percent, generating annual interest payments in excess of $1.56 trillion. Against a structural deficit of approximately $1.83 trillion in fiscal year 2024, interest expense now constitutes approximately 85 percent of the total deficit. The United States government is, by any rigorous definition, in a state of fiscal dominance.

This paper advances the thesis that fiscal dominance inverts the sign of the inflation response to rate hikes. When the sovereign cannot credibly commit to primary surpluses sufficient to service its debt without ongoing deficit financing, higher rates do not suppress aggregate demand through credit rationing. Instead, they transfer income from the public sector to private creditors at a scale that expands broad money through deficit accommodation, producing an inflationary rather than disinflationary outcome.

The paper proceeds as follows. Section II reviews the conventional monetary transmission mechanism and its theoretical preconditions. Section III develops the fiscal dominance framework and the interest income channel. Section IV presents the arithmetic of the current U.S. fiscal position. Section V interprets the 1977-1981 historical record through this alternative lens. Section VI draws on the Japanese experience as a longitudinal natural experiment. Section VII develops the policy implication of managed financial repression. Section VIII concludes.

II. Conventional Monetary Transmission and Its Preconditions

The standard account of monetary transmission, formalized in the New Keynesian IS-LM framework and elaborated in the work of Bernanke and Blinder (1992) and Mishkin (1996), holds that an increase in the policy rate raises the real cost of borrowing, suppresses credit-financed expenditure, lowers aggregate demand, and thereby reduces inflationary pressure. This mechanism operates through several channels: the interest rate channel, the credit channel, the exchange rate channel, and wealth effects through asset price compression.

What is less frequently stated, but is logically prior to all of these channels, is the fiscal solvency assumption. The conventional framework implicitly treats fiscal policy as passive: the government adjusts taxes and spending to stabilize the debt stock at any interest rate the central bank chooses to set. This is the condition Leeper (1991) formalized as an “active” monetary and “passive” fiscal policy regime. The New Keynesian model is coherent and delivers the expected results only within this regime.

When fiscal policy cannot be passive, because the political economy of spending and taxation prevents primary surplus adjustment, the model’s predictions break down. Sargent and Wallace (1981) demonstrated this formally in their “Unpleasant Monetarist Arithmetic”: if the real interest rate persistently exceeds the real growth rate and the government cannot cut spending, tighter money today simply defers inflation. The intertemporal government budget constraint must still clear; it does so through future price level adjustment rather than future fiscal adjustment. Importantly, they showed that the more credible and aggressive the monetary tightening in the near term, the larger the required future inflation to satisfy the intertemporal constraint, ceteris paribus.

The contemporary United States satisfies every condition Sargent and Wallace identified as producing the regime inversion: a structural primary deficit, a debt stock growing faster than nominal GDP at current rates, and no credible political commitment to the fiscal adjustments that would return the economy to a passive-fiscal regime.

III. The Fiscal Theory of the Price Level and the Interest Income Channel

The Fiscal Theory of the Price Level, developed by Leeper (1991), Sims (1994), and Woodford (1994, 1995), and given comprehensive treatment by Cochrane (2023), holds that the price level is determined not solely by the money supply or the policy rate, but by the relationship between nominal government liabilities and the expected present discounted value of future primary surpluses. When that present value falls short of the nominal liability stock, the price level adjusts upward to restore the equality, even in the absence of changes to the money supply.

Cochrane (2023) extends this framework to show that under fiscal dominance, higher interest rates can be directly inflationary through what this paper terms the interest income channel. The mechanism is as follows. The Treasury issues new debt to fund its deficit, including the interest payments owed to existing creditors. Those interest payments enter the private sector as income. Unlike income earned through productive activity, this income does not require labor supply, capital investment, or entrepreneurial risk. It is a pure transfer, funded at the margin by the implicit inflation tax that deficit monetization imposes on holders of nominal claims.

Reis (2022) provides empirical support for this channel in the post-2020 inflationary episode, documenting that the expansion of government interest payments contributed materially to broad money growth independent of Federal Reserve asset purchases. Bianchi and Faccini (2024) estimate that in the current fiscal regime, each 100 basis point increase in the policy rate generates a net inflationary impulse of approximately 0.3 to 0.5 percentage points on a two-year horizon through the fiscal channel, partially or fully offsetting the disinflationary credit channel.

The interest income channel is amplified by the distributional characteristics of Treasury debt ownership. The primary holders of short-duration Treasury securities and money market instruments, which respond most immediately to changes in the policy rate, are domestic institutional investors, money market funds, corporate treasuries, and high-net-worth households. These entities have elevated marginal propensities to consume financial and real assets. Interest income flowing to this cohort is therefore more likely to be recycled into asset price appreciation and goods expenditure than equivalent income flowing to median households, generating inflationary pressure in both the CPI and asset price indices.

IV. The Arithmetic of U.S. Fiscal Dominance

The following table presents the key fiscal variables that establish the current U.S. regime as one of fiscal dominance. The figures are drawn from the Congressional Budget Office (2024), the U.S. Treasury Bureau of the Fiscal Service, and the Federal Reserve Board of Governors.

The r minus g differential of approximately 2.5 percentage points is particularly significant. Blanchard (2019) established that when r is persistently below g, debt dynamics are stable and fiscal deficits carry relatively benign macroeconomic consequences. The converse, r persistently above g, produces an explosive debt trajectory absent compensating primary surpluses. With no credible surplus path in the current political environment, the price level bears the adjustment burden that fiscal policy cannot.

The increase in the federal funds rate from 0.25 percent in early 2022 to 5.33 percent at peak mechanically increased annual interest expense by approximately $1.0 trillion relative to the zero-rate counterfactual. This increment, approximately 3.8 percent of GDP, was injected into the private sector as interest income and funded through the issuance of additional Treasury securities. It constitutes a fiscal stimulus of the first order, financed by the very monetary tightening intended to reduce aggregate demand.

V. Reinterpreting 1977-1981: The Volcker Period Revisited

The standard historical narrative credits Paul Volcker’s aggressive rate hike campaign of 1979-1982 with definitively breaking the inflationary cycle of the 1970s. This account is not incorrect, but it requires critical qualification that bears directly on the contemporary policy question.

First, the empirical record from 1977 through mid-1979 is itself inconsistent with the conventional transmission mechanism. The federal funds rate rose from approximately 4.6 percent in January 1977 to 10.5 percent by September 1979, a period during which CPI inflation did not fall but accelerated, rising from approximately 6 percent to over 11 percent. The concurrent rise in rates and inflation is precisely consistent with the interest income channel operating in a period of elevated, though not yet extreme, deficit spending.

Second, and critically, the debt stock in 1981 was approximately $1 trillion, representing roughly 32 percent of GDP. Annual interest payments, while high in nominal terms, did not constitute a regime-level income transfer to the private sector. The economy remained, by the Leeper (1991) classification, in or near the active-monetary, passive-fiscal regime. The conventional transmission mechanism could therefore operate largely as theorized.

Third, the inflation break of 1982-1983 coincided not merely with high nominal rates but with a severe demand-side recession, the deepest since the Great Depression, and with a sharp decline in velocity as financial innovation reversed. Romer and Romer (1989) document that the Volcker disinflation operated primarily through a severe output cost rather than through a smooth price-level adjustment, consistent with the view that the demand channel eventually dominated but at extraordinary economic cost.

The lesson is not that rate hikes cannot suppress inflation. It is that the mechanism through which they do so requires a fiscal environment in which the interest income channel does not dominate the credit channel. That condition held in 1979-1982. It does not hold in 2024-2026, where the debt stock is 39 times larger in nominal terms and interest expense exceeds the entire federal deficit as a share of GDP.

VI. Japan as Longitudinal Natural Experiment: 1990-2024

The three-decade Japanese experience provides the most comprehensive natural experiment available for evaluating the inflation consequences of sustained near-zero interest rates under conditions of elevated sovereign debt. Japan’s debt-to-GDP ratio exceeded 100 percent by the late 1990s and surpassed 260 percent by 2024, the highest ratio of any major developed economy.

The Bank of Japan maintained its policy rate at or near zero from 1999 onward, implementing negative rates from 2016 to 2024. The inflation outcome over this period was persistent deflation or near-zero inflation for approximately three decades. The mainstream interpretation attributed this to deficient aggregate demand and demographic headwinds. The fiscal dominance interpretation offers a more parsimonious account: zero rates minimized the interest income transfer from the public sector to private creditors, suppressing one of the primary channels of nominal demand growth, and producing precisely the deflationary dynamic the present thesis predicts for a low-rate environment in a high-debt economy.

The corollary is equally important. When the Bank of Japan began allowing rates to rise modestly in 2022-2024, consumer price inflation appeared for the first time in a generation, reaching approximately 3.3 percent in 2023. Conventional theory would attribute this to external supply shocks. The fiscal dominance channel, however, predicts that even modest rate increases in a high-debt economy generate inflationary interest income transfers, consistent with the observed data.

Hoshi and Ito (2014) document the mechanisms through which Japanese fiscal dominance constrained monetary policy effectiveness. Caballero, Hoshi, and Kashyap (2008) examine the credit channel failure in Japan, finding that the standard transmission mechanism was substantially impaired by the balance sheet conditions of the banking sector, a condition that also partially characterizes U.S. regional banking after the 2022-2023 rate shock.

VII. Policy Implication: Managed Financial Repression as the Correct Response

If the analysis in the preceding sections is correct, the policy implication follows directly: the inflation-minimizing rate in a fiscally dominant regime is not the rate that maximizes the restrictiveness of monetary conditions, but the rate that minimizes the interest income transfer to the private sector while maintaining sufficient real returns to sustain voluntary demand for sovereign debt without requiring overt monetization.

This condition is satisfied by what the historical literature terms financial repression: maintaining the policy rate at or below the nominal growth rate of the economy (r equal to or less than g), thereby generating a negative or zero real return on government securities. Reinhart and Sbrancia (2015) document that this mechanism was the primary instrument through which the United States and United Kingdom liquidated their World War II debt burdens from 1945 to approximately 1975, reducing debt-to-GDP ratios by 30 to 40 percentage points without formal default or hyperinflation.

The mechanism operated through three channels operating simultaneously. First, negative real returns on government securities transferred wealth from creditors to the sovereign, reducing the real value of the debt stock. Second, by keeping the rate below nominal GDP growth, the r minus g differential was negative, allowing the debt ratio to decline automatically over time without requiring primary surpluses. Third, by limiting the interest income transfer to the private sector, financial repression constrained one of the primary inflationary channels identified in this paper.

Applied to the current U.S. situation, the financial repression framework implies a target federal funds rate at or modestly below nominal GDP growth, currently approximately 5 to 6 percent in nominal terms. With the Fed funds rate at 5.33 percent at its 2023 peak, the economy was at the boundary of this range. A trajectory toward 3 to 4 percent, as has been partially commenced since September 2024, would generate negative real rates against current inflation, reducing the interest income transfer, shrinking the deficit mechanically through reduced interest expense, and allowing the r minus g differential to move in the direction of debt stabilization.

The concern raised by conventional analysts, that lower rates will spur credit-financed inflation through increased borrowing, requires scrutiny under current conditions. As Mian, Straub, and Sufi (2021) document, the marginal borrower in an over-indebted economy is constrained not by the nominal interest rate but by the debt service capacity relative to income. In an environment of elevated household and corporate debt burdens, lower rates reduce debt service costs on existing obligations, improving balance sheet capacity, but do not automatically generate new credit demand sufficient to offset the disinflationary effect of reduced interest income to the creditor class.

Japan again provides the empirical anchor. Three decades of near-zero rates did not generate the credit-driven inflationary spiral that conventional theory would predict. They generated deflation. The credit channel, in an economy of debt saturation, does not operate in the textbook direction.

VIII. Conclusion

This paper has argued that the Federal Reserve is applying a monetary framework developed for a fiscally solvent economy to one that is fiscally dominant, and that this error has directional consequences for the inflation outcome. When the government cannot adjust its fiscal position to offset the income effects of higher interest rates, rate hikes transfer income to the private sector at a scale that expands nominal demand, financed through deficit accommodation, producing an inflationary rather than disinflationary impulse.

The historical evidence is consistent with this view. The 1977-1979 period shows rising rates concurrent with rising inflation in a period of fiscal expansion. The 1982-1983 break shows disinflation purchased at the cost of a severe recession in an era when the debt stock was insufficient to activate the fiscal dominance regime. Japan shows three decades of deflationary or near-zero inflation under near-zero rates in a high-debt economy.

The correct policy framework is managed financial repression: maintaining the policy rate at or below nominal GDP growth, allowing the r minus g differential to work in favor of debt stabilization, and constraining the interest income transfer that constitutes the dominant inflationary channel in a fiscally dominant regime. This is not a novel invention. It is a documented mechanism through which the United States successfully liquidated the largest debt burden in its peacetime history during the thirty years following World War II.

The Federal Reserve’s current hesitancy to reduce rates further, against a backdrop of upticking CPI and PPI, mirrors the error of the late 1970s in structural terms, though in reverse direction. Then, the Fed was too slow to tighten because it feared the growth consequences. Now, it is too slow to ease because it fears the inflation consequences. In both cases, the model being applied failed to account for the fiscal environment in which monetary policy was being conducted. The cost of that error, in the late 1970s, was a decade of stagflation and a recession of historical severity. The cost of the current error, if uncorrected, may be materially higher, given the substantially larger fiscal overhang that now exists.

The SpaceX IPO landed on June 12 and by the close Elon Musk had crossed into territory no human being has ever occupied: a net worth above one trillion dollars. The financial press treated it as a coronation. Magnelibra is treating it as a math problem. A nearly $2 trn. dollar opening market cap on a company that has never traded a single public share and operates in a sector with no comparable valuation anchor is not an investment thesis. It is a liquidity event dressed in rocket exhaust. We will not include SpaceX in the MEGA9 tracker. Our standard requires at least six months of real live public trading data before any company earns a position in the model. SpaceX has zero days. That rule exists for exactly this situation.

The dollar is the part of this story everyone is too polite to say out loud. Musk is now worth more than one trillion dollars, denominated in a currency the Federal Reserve is printing at approximately $6 billion dollars per week to buy Treasury bills, with a balance sheet that has quietly climbed back to $6.77 trillion, well off the lows that were supposed to signal tightening. The Fed is not tightening. It is running what Magnelibra calls QE-lite, buying duration with newly created money while telling the public it is managing the balance sheet. The first trillionaire was not created by a rocket company. He was created by a printing press. The dollar has simply become cheap enough that a trillion of them is now a single man’s net worth.

Iran is the other headline. A peace framework is being floated and markets are reacting as though it is real. Magnelibra’s read is simpler. The Middle East has produced framework agreements, ceasefires, and diplomatic openings in a continuous cycle for decades. None of them have produced durable peace and there is no structural reason this one will be different. What they do produce reliably is volatility. Volatility is profitable for the right participants. Trump-era diplomacy in this region has historically followed the same pattern: loud announcement, market move, quiet reversal. We are not positioned around an Iran deal. We are positioned around energy fundamentals and the trend.

Equity indexes are pressing against the highs heading into a week with real catalysts. The S&P settled at 7,435, the Nasdaq at 29,662, and the Nikkei at 67,335, up 33.19% year to date. The SpaceX IPO euphoria has a real chance of driving the market into new high territory this week. Magnelibra expects that push to fail. The 10-year yield at 4.487% and the 30-year at 4.973% are not the environment in which equity multiples expand sustainably. The compression between record equity prices and elevated real rates is the tension that resolves, eventually, in the direction of rates.

The bond market is the tell. The 10-year yield chart is forming what looks like a stabilization pattern under the 4.610% resistance that has capped every yield spike since 2023. Four red arrows on that chart mark four failed attempts to break above that level. The fifth attempt is in progress. If yields fail at resistance again, the stage is set for a meaningful rally in bonds, exactly what the long ZB and now long ZN position in the Trend Program is built for. The FOMC minutes drop Wednesday. With the Fed actively buying Treasury bills at $6Bn per week, any talk of further rate hikes in those minutes would be a contradiction in plain English. We will read them. We do not expect them to change the structural picture.

Three items stand out. FOMC minutes Wednesday: the Fed has been purchasing Treasury bills at approximately $6 billion per week while holding rates steady. Any language in those minutes suggesting further rate hikes is a direct contradiction of active balance sheet expansion. Watch the bond market reaction, not the headline. Thursday June 19 is Juneteenth: US markets are closed. Friday is quad witching options expiration, which adds intraday volatility and positioning flows to an already headline-heavy week. Plan around the Thursday closure.

Two new positions entered Friday: ZN (10-year note) flipped to LONG on a sentiment change, adding a second long duration position alongside ZB. A6 (Australian Dollar) flipped to LONG. SpaceX (SPCE) went public June 12, 2026 at a near $2 trillion opening market cap, which would place it among the largest companies on earth by any measure. Despite its size, SpaceX is not included in the MEGA9 tracker. Magnelibra’s standard requires a minimum of 6 months of real, live public trading data before any company is eligible for inclusion. SpaceX has zero days of public history. A $2 trillion valuation with no public trading record is a liquidity event, not a data set. We will revisit eligibility in December 2026.

Microsoft extended its YTD loss to -19.21%, the worst in the basket. The 5 QQQ 720 calls expired, generating $680 in realized premium for the week, YTD options P+L $2,710. This week the hedge targets the 740 call at $5 or better. Resistance sits at 735 on the weekly chart. Daily P+L ($122), -0.12%.

Yields rose Friday but the weekly structure is stabilizing · 10Y resistance at 4.610% · ZB and ZN both LONG

Friday saw yields tick higher across the curve, bear steepening with the 10-year up 2.4 bp to 4.487% and the 30-year up 2.3 bp to 4.973%, holding just below the 5.000% level. But zoom out. The 10-year yield chart is the most important chart in the market right now. Four consecutive failures at the 4.610% resistance level dating back to 2023 have defined the yield ceiling. The fifth test is approaching. If that resistance holds again, the next move is a rally in bonds. Magnelibra holds both ZB and ZN (10-year, new long added Friday), both positioned for that outcome. The Fed buying $6 billion per week in T-bills while rates sit at current levels is not tightening. The FOMC minutes Wednesday will be read carefully for any contradiction between the rate language and the balance sheet reality.

All five indexes closed higher Friday. The Nikkei led with 890 points and now sits at 67,335, up 33.19% year to date, the strongest index in the MEGA9 universe by a wide margin. The S&P is pressing toward the 7,650 weekly resistance with support at 7,275. Nasdaq futures tested the 30,850 weekly resistance and settled at 29,662. The SpaceX IPO euphoria is real and the momentum could push indexes to new highs this week. Magnelibra expects that push to be a selling opportunity, not a confirmation of a new leg. Elevated rates and a compressing MEGA9 market cap do not support multiple expansion at these levels.

The Dollar Index sits at 99.489, holding just below 100 but up 2.00% year to date. Here is the number that matters more: the Federal Reserve balance sheet has risen back to $6.77 trillion, purchasing approximately $6 billion in Treasury bills per week. This is not a neutral policy. It is money creation with a different label. The first trillionaire was not built by a rocket. He was built by a currency cheap enough that a trillion units is one man’s net worth. Gold pulled back sharply this week and sits near $4,283 on the weekly chart, testing the 4,025 weekly support with the 4,450 resistance above. Silver and crude oil are at similar technical inflection points. At major support levels, two-way action should be expected. These are not one-directional trades at current prices. Bitcoin sits at $63,583, -27.30% year to date. The weekly chart shows price between 67,500 resistance and 52,800 support.

The strategy is down 22.2% year to date versus -67.4% for unhedged MSTR since the December 1, 2024 inception. mNAV has ticked up to 1.11x as Bitcoin held near $63,583. Strategy continues to hold 845,256 BTC at an average cost of $75,680. The covered call mechanic for this week will target approximately 5% out of the money from Monday’s open. If MSTR opens near $125, the $133 call is the target. The premium capture continues to significantly outperform buy-and-hold MSTR.
